Hi,

I recently bought myself a Paterson tank, which can take up to five 35mm or three 120/220 films. I only used small dev tanks(two 35mm films or one 120/220 film) before and i was wondering if i should make any adjustments in developing times, number of inversions,... when i'm using my new dev tank.

I heard so many different things, so i'm kinda confused atm

PS: My normal workflow: Inversion during the first 30 seconds, afterwards five inversions every 30 seconds. I'm mostly using Tri-X in Xtol 1:1...

PPS: When i take a look at the dev time table in the Xtol technical sheet, i see that there are different times for small tanks and large tanks. Should a tank, which can take up to five spools, already be considered a "large tank"?

Thanks in advance!

I would recommend inversion every 60 sec, rather than the 30 sec. you are using 1500ml of liquid in the 5 reel Paterson so there is plenty of developer around.
I use 5 reel tanks exclusively (must have 6-7 of them!). Takes just as long to develop 5 reels as 2-3 - so why waste time?
Only caveat, when you "tap" the big Paterson tank, dont slam it against the counter. The weight and volume can cause cracks in the bottom (though you really have to whack it hard to do that).
The small versus large tank is 1000 ml or less is small tank - anything more is a large tank.

Kodak assumes that large tanks are 1 US gallon (3.8 L) or larger and cannot be moved. Their times are for use of those systems involve agitating by moving the reels in a basket in the developer, rather than moving the tank.
