Last night, I was invited to shoot a very private and artistic session of shibari (Japanese rope bondage). What a wonderful opportunity. If you shoot portraits in events like I do, you should appreciate subjects who can't move! 😀

I brought my new portable portrait kit (flashes, stands, umbrellas, radio slave, etc) and my trusty R2. Everything went fine for the first roll which covered the first of two bondages. My lighting kit is wonderful. There's only my 75/2.5 that has a bad case of back focus but that's another story.

When I switched films for the second bondage, I did something that I used to do years ago (now considered extremely stupid). In order to get nothing on the first frames of the roll (before #1), I set the speed on 1/1000. Guess what... I left it there! :bang: Result: pitch black roll with only a few hints of light here and there. :bang: So, that second bondage will only live in our memories (very nice ones, btw).

Next time, I'll use my hand to cover the lens.

I diserve another one... :bang:

I guess I'll get it in an hour or so when I meet my friends...

You mean the being tied up and spanked thing?

Just kidding. I'm sure they'll understand and will be more than pleased to have to reshoot. 😉

That is one sexy subject that I always wanted to do! How did you get access to such an exotic topic? 😛 By the way Marc, I did something similar. I left the lens cap on for the first 10 frames!

Not a smart move, Marc! 🙂

But the first roll is good, right? Will you post pics (here or on your site)?

Ei !

I had never left the lens cap on with my cameras, never, ever !

The only time I did, Roman was kindly pointing me with a camera.

So that moment now is eternal.

And I still can't stand from 😀 each time I remember

Yess...the lens... 😀 I guess it's too late to do some pull processing on the film. But I guess that was just too fast fer ya.

I am sincerely sorry for you; I had something similar happen to me (ok, granted, it wasn't shibari or anything like that), it was with my Hasselblad (oh how I long for thee) --- anyway --- and I had my prism set for the wrong speed, the flash set for the wrong power, and I exposed the same frame four times (I returned the back after I developed the roll). It was...interesting...

All the people involved are friends. They were having this private session and thought it would be nice to have pictures taken. So they asked their "official photographer". We all enjoyed the experience (the photography part) so much that we decided we'd try to do it as often as possible.

First roll is really nice. I'm waiting for my friends to give me the list of pictures they don't want published. Form there, I'll be able to make my selection for my site.

Hmm, guess your mind was on other things.

I guess so! There was one little external detail I enjoyed during that session. There's a film festival right now and the appartment is across the street from the red carpet. So, when I looked in the room, there was the shobari going on and when I looked throught the window, I saw people with press photographers waiting for a movie to start. If only they knew... 😀

BTW, just as I thought, everybody was sad that the second roll turned to poop but very happy we'll have to redo it.
