I have just come accross some information about a Lee filter system, which is being made especially for rangefinders. Lee make some really super quality products, but their conventional system is way too big for rangefinders. It is actually pictured on an X Pan but looks like a very nice bit of kit. It has graduated scales to allow use of a graduated filter with perhaps a bit less guess work. It may be too much to hope for, but a decent lens hood is also not inconceivable with this system. Also an IR cut out filter which is 'drop in' would be handy! It is apparently available from June (RF 75) according to the link.

Ah yes I have found the image of the filter on an M8
It looks useable to me. The way Lee systems work on their standard set up, the filter holder will clip on and off pretty easilly leaving just a mounting ring on the lens. I really would like to be able to use grey grad for lanscapes, and the graduations at the edges of the filter holder should make this a little easier on a rangefinder. At the moment I use a full size grey grad and hold this in front of the lens . I am hoping for a decent adjustable lens hood too. Is it too much to ask for a clip on IR filter? I guess so!
Lee stuff is generally on the pricey side, but Ill bet its cheaper than Leica!

Its the same idea, but the standard filter holder and glass is very high quality. I am hoping this will be similar. I do not think that Cokin make mounting rings small enough for rangefinder lenses. (at least I can not find a 39mm one). And the graded scale is a nice feature.

I agree with the grade scale. For the fitting problem, have you considered a step-up? I still have a 39->46 and a 46->52.
Talking of diameters, do you think the product identifier maps to 75mm max filter thread diameter on the lens side?
