Wow ... I'll put that on my watch list!

I suspect it will fetch a fairly high price ... looks like there's some stuff missing, lens mount appears to be gone.

Also the slow speed dial, and probably internal gear train, are missing. "Stock" 250s, both the "FF" and "GG" variants, were based on the III/IIIa series and normally had the slow speed range.

I wonder why that small oval plate is mounted on the top.

There are no long speeds, altough the long speed spring is at the bottom.

I'm pretty sure my repairman can make this thing work like new.

I really want to know how much this thing will fetch.

Erik.

I take it that I can see two tripod mounts on the baseplate and maybe the drive for the motor on the base of the shutter assembly? As Erik says, slow speeds are AWOL but recollect that maybe some didn't have them and I don't know what those two screws lower down beneath the blanking plate might be.

The oval plate on the top doesn't seem to be in quite the right place to cover off a later flash connection.

When much younger I handled a 250 that looked almost as rough as this but worked. They sit well in your hands and feel much more 'right' than they look. At the time it was for sale for £100. I think this would have been in 65 or 66.

In the right hands it wouldn't cost too much to get it working, very tempting but I guess it will go for big money.

Well, my son lives just round the corner from the seller (just around the corner in Aus can be anything up to 300 miles) I'm tempted...but I am not going to disturb him.

Vulcanite worn to that extent is something special, even the worst camera in my cupboard cannot compete!

The number is dead on, as one would imagine. 300045 (if I read it right) comes up as a 'Reporter' from 1938. The drive for the motor may be a later addition.

So, at the least, you need a good repair man and a junk III or IIIa for parts (preferably black/nickel). I am unfamiliar with the film advance gearing for this camera but if it has stripped teeth things will get might costly.

We watch and wait with interest!

Well, there you go. £1,122.38.

I'd have thought something less than £500 to make it functional and then one would have one of the most worn looking 250s around.

Surely I've seen them for less than £2k in worn, beaten but complete condition???

Michael

It's more than I expected it would bring, and I think it's too much for a body that lacks a mount and almost all the original screws. Of course it could be rebuilt with regular Barnack parts, but the fact that so many screws have disappeared spells problems. If Reporter-specific parts are missing, you can forget about rebuilding. And indeed, it will be the worst looking Reporter on earth (although that may have its charms for some of us).
