I haven't received my CL in the mail yet but I do know it has the famous broken (white part) of the take up spool. I've looked for a replacement part to repair myself but can only find "For Parts" cameras that cost more than my original. I did find a take-up spool for the "R" series, the white clip part looks similar, I wonder if the parts are interchangeable? (just the white part)
(see below)
Also I have heard of using double sided tape to make it work. How exactly do you do this? I'm trying to imagine it (remember, I haven't got my camera yet) I'm sure someone here has used the tape trick if they could fill me in that would be great.

I don't know if the R series version is compatible, but did you try sending a note to Don Goldberg (DAG) and asking if he had the part in stock? Don's got a lot of CL parts.

Sherry Krauter bought all the CL spare parts from Leica when service was discontinued.
Golden Touch Camera Repair.
If you like the camera after some use, send it to her for CLA and she will install all the upgraded parts at that time.
Plastic is garbage material. I just pulled some new Florsheim shoes from my 10 year old supply. They lasted less than 15 minutes on the very first walk last evening. The soles were sticky, picked up small stones and leaves, and eventually fell off.
Same thing happened with some inherited lawn furniture, golf bags, my wife`s sewing machine and the list goes on. My mothers Singer worked when she died at 87. She got it in 8 grade and used it heavily. A bit of oil now and then and on it goes. Never saw a repair shop. The clothes she made were better than the the best you can find in a store.
We all know about the foam light seals on cameras. More plastic. I replaced all mine with yarn which is how pro movie cameras are made.

Hi,
You don't need double sided sticky tape. Just use ordinary and stick the film leader to the spool. Then check it winds on (as you would anyway) before putting the back on.

Hi,
I'll second that, I know a young lady with a small but very well know firm that consists of her and an elderly Singer sewing machine. AND, she says it's best to buy scissors wholesale and just do one job with them before throwing them away.

Speaking of scissors, the lady who cuts my hair says all the people in her shop buy some brand of German scissors that cost $450. I tried them and they are effortless to use and balanced. They go back to Germany to be sharpened after about 9 months use. Local people butcher them.
Try to buy good scissors today for home use. Heinkle and the better Fiskars are the minimum. 99% of what is out there is junk.

I am presently looking into this problem with my Olympus XA. Could you please tell me where to find the yarn you mention?

any fabric store that sells yarn and such. I have the regular black cotton yarn for the larger grooves and there's a thinner cotton "crochet cord" for the small grooves like on the XA. be sure to get the cotton, not poly.
