Hi all,

Finally work has picked up and I was able to pick up a M6 I've been wanting for awhile. Also found a cheap nokton 35 1.4 with some minor issues that dont affect image quality.

Anyways, I've always been in love with the 28mm FOV and just ended up buying a elmarit on a whim (after some research and reviews of course). Although these lenses go for a steal, theres only a few videos on them and not many real world examples.

I wanted to see if any of you shoot with this lens and can give me your overall thoughts and examples shot with it. I know these are said to have more of a "clinical" look, but I prefer the extra clean, know what your guna get sharpness, as I've been doing a lot of printing lately and that is sort of just what I look for in a lens right now.

I am mostly shooting black and white with the M6, love to hear what you guys have to say about this lens. Thanks.

The reason why 35 1.4 Nokton is cheap is because improved version is coming in June...

Like I stated I got it for about half off because of the front part of the lens being a little loose.

When I say a steal I guess im just talking in relation to other lenses. I really wanted a 35 or 28 cron but for 2k plus I couldnt justify it.

I paid $1500 for the 28 Elm Asph brand new with box and papers, which I feel like is a decent bargain.

I'd contact a repair person to repair this.


I have one Elmarit-M 28 asph. and little lovely lens, very light but the small size means that when mounting/dismounting, we tend to grab the hood so the front ring part becomes loose with time.


So after repair, don't do (grab the hood) this anymore to preserve the lens.
 
I have a mint one and I've been thinking of selling it for a long time, PM me if interested. Compact, light, great ergonomic, technically outstanding but contrast is too high for my taste.
 
I have the first generation Elmarit 28mm ASPH. From MTF charts, the difference between the 1st and the 2nd generation is minimal.

Comparing to my Zeiss C/Y 28mm F/2.8, this lens is clinically cleaner and sharper. It has little/no discernible distortion. The handling is superb: tiny and lightweight, the focus tab is very handy, and the aperture ring clicks nicely. Even with a lens hood on, the size is still very small. I never think twice to put into my camera bag: it doesn't use much space anyway.

Yep, this is definitely the one word of caution I would give to anyone, and I would confirm any prospective lens being considered, I would confirm the front section is not already loose.

I sent one to DAG I purchased before knowing this point. Of all places, bought second-hand from B&H. The play was not bad at all, but I went ahead and had it fixed anyway.

The lens is TINY. So tiny and with such little real estate to grip when changing lenses, one is really tempted to use the mounted hood to assist with the mounting and un-mounting, which eventually leads to the problem.
 
Such a great lens in my opinion. I have the version II ASPH, but I previously owned the Ver.I and regrettably sold it. In any event, and many can confirm, it is tiny, super sharp, contrasty and just an overall great compact 28mm lens. Some might not like the 28mm FOV, but that's an easy thing to avoid since there are tons and tons of 35mm lenses available. I don't have any complaints whatsoever, but I'm also a fan of the smallest lenses I can get away with. With that said, I'm nearly ready to sell my 28mm f2 Summicron ASPH (Ver.1) for this reason.

I get it tomorrow and am about halfway through a roll right now so im hoping to finish the roll off in the next several days after I receive it, and ill post some of my first shots with it in here.

I don't mean brand new, I meant it is mint "brand new" condition.

Just came in today 🙂

Front half is a TINY bit loose. Bought from a reputable camera shop with a 90 day warranty going to try to see if they can help me out with it.

Been going to LA this week on my days off. Finished a couple rolls I'll post some of my results when I get them back and scan them.

Front end is a TINY bit loose, im not going to worry about it right now. I'll take it in when I decide to get a CLA done on my M6 just to make sure everything is good to go for the fore seeable future.
 
I bought a mint .58 M6 when I was in Amsterdam a few years ago and also the 28mm Elmarit for an additional $1300. When I got my photos back I was stunned at the sharpness and contrast. It is my all time favorite Leica lens by a long shot.
