Leica HEBOO

The HEBOO was a small Leica add-on mechanism which could attach to the shutter release of a Leica thread mount body and fire the shutter at properly timed slow speeds.

Does anyone know of an alternative device which can accomplish this task? I ask because although I'd love to own a HEBOO for use with my Leica II and Leotax K (a Leica II copy) they are expensive. I'm loath to pay $200-$300 for a used HEBOO.

I have a Prontor cable release 8 inches long with a HEBOO type timer on the end.
It goes to 32 seconds and works well. Don't know how old it is
Cheers

Philip,

OK thanks for the lead. I'll look around for these. I'd need to adapt the conventional tip of a normal cable release to the different standard that Leica used on the Barnack cameras.

There is an adapter for converting to Barnacks.
Nikon used the same system on rangefinders and early reflex Fs.
Nikon should be easier to find.

I believe the Haka Autoknips Model II will work like the HEBOO, as both a timer delay and a slow shutter speed timer.

This won’t fit a Barnack Leica, but there is this timer, made for a Bolex Reflex ciné camera. It provides various long exposure times, activated after a slight delay.

Vince, the Haka Autoknips Model II comes close to what I need, but the shortest exposure time is 1/2 second , which is fairly long. I can certainly see however how this device can be very convenient for reliable longer exposure timing on any camera. I think I'll buy one if for that only (it's action is reminiscent of the Exakta shutter).

Philip I'll look for those adapters. I forgot that the Nikon F uses the Leica cable release standard.

Malcom. The L. A. camera fair is certainly a possibility - I've not been there for a few years however.

Ray. The APDOO is a self timer, which is not what I need. I am seeking a device to open and close the shutter for a preset, usually short time (when set on B), i.e., a shutter timer.

Pal_K. The Bolex timer has an action that appears similar to the Haka, i.e. it times fairly long intervals.
