Hi Leica people.
this is probabaly my first post in this subforum because i dont own a leica

anyways, my friend (knowing i am all forum tech savy) is interested in selling his leica 1F and IIIF.
I have no idea what it goes for on the market so i am seeking advice from members here.
He said his 1F has an external viewfinder and IIIF has some sort of self timer thingy,.

What else is there to look for when selilng his used leica stuff?

why does it make a difference to the repair man?

anyone know the costs?
i have to get the leicas from my friend to photography them

With regards to the IIIF I can provide my own experience: I just purchased last week a black dial IIIF, no self timer, in very clean condition and with shutter speeds sounding correct (I check at 1/15th or 1/10th for a particular sound) and a tiny piece of vulcanite missing near the slow speed dial. has the usual marks on bottom plate but lugs are very clean, no marks. Price was $200.

I have a very clean (few marks) red dial IIIF (no self timer) that I got for $250, knowing the slow speeds were off, with a gorgeous 5cm f2 Summitar with front cap and worn ER case. Price was $250. It went to Don Goldberg (DAG) for a CLA that cost $270. It is now a beautiful and efficient IIIF, silky smooth, a gem.

Hope this helps.

is there a picture somewhere showing me what a red and black timer looks like?

thanks bobkonos for the price on the IIIF
will check with my friend

seems like my friend wants to sell his M2
eh

Red Dial IIIf starts with Serial Number 611000. On my RD, the numbers appear as black, from age. The Black Dial IIIf has shutter speeds such as 1/20,1/30 etc. The RD shutter speeds were changed to 1/25, 1/50/ 1/75. Hope this helps.

My red dial. I bought it together with the mint 35 mm f/3.5 summaron, original hood and intact original leather case for 400$. Everything works fantastically, no CLA needed.

so how much would the bodies 1F and IIIF go for alone each?
seems like no one really knows much about the IF
haha thanks for the RD help.

I've recently seen IF's go for more than IIIF's. The IF is a rangefinderless and finderless camera that was used primarely as a microscope/medical instrument camera and didn't need a finder/rangefinder. It's less camera for more money, because the collectors determine the value. If you want to use it as a normal camera you need an additional (expensive) finder. If you want a real shooter, forget it. Regards, Huub

is black dial or red dial more valuable (if that is the word to be used)
When red and black dial are of equal quality red dial has a somewhat higher value.
