I posted earlier this week about making a filter holder for my Summar f-2 50mm lens. I just got back from doing the small amount of machine cutting needed for the project. Although I have a good lathe in my shop it was too big to take on this project without having to first make a special jig to hold the lens cap. My lathe is a 12x36" drop bed gear head with a 6" three jaw chuck. The way to hold the lens cap for cutting is to apply pressure on the inside of the lip out. Not to grab it from the outside in. My chuck is too big to grab something that small from the inside. But thankfully I have a friend (another photographer with a penchant for Russian cameras) who owns and old but very good small lathe with a three inch chuck. Using only hand pressure for tightening I chucked up the lens cap and cut out the raised section of the cap leaving the raised edge to center the 49 mm screw on filter holder. We use a very good epoxy at my work place on a number of products and I will use this (Stycast) to bond the two pieces together.

Now I need to look on Ebay for another lens cap. 🙄

I went briefly to the biker toy run today. I had planned on staying longer but when I pulled out the Leica and shot the first shot I found out it was the last shot of the roll. I had apparantly not reset the film counter and I though I had about 1/2 the roll left. :bang:

But I did have a darkside camera as well and could not resist taking at least a few shots with it.

Sigh....
