i just posted on the Abrahamson forum so sorry for the repost. Here it goes:
i have got Leica IIIf in a miserable state. It was given to me about 10yrs ago, already in a bad state and i left it in a shelf getting dust on.
i knew nothing about RFs and never thought i would need a separate finder to frame the pic! so i thought it was an impossoble to use camera.
Back to camera..the RF is hazy, lens is hazy, the exterior has lost the polished shine.
Is it worth restoring? i would like to trade it on a new RF... a Bessa. I like working w/ new stuff. i know that makes me look like a moronhere but i shoot a lot of portraits and have trouble w/ focusing. i feel new Vfinders always help me.
Thank you for your attention.

HI Flavio

Yes a Barnack camera is always worth correcting/servicing...(i won't say restoring) because they are wonderful and reliable cameras. However, if you want a new camera then sell it "as is" but you probebly won't get much. There are folks here that can repair Barnacks and will buy it if the price is right. Also if you change your mind there are excellent repair shops available to do the service for you.

Good Luck!

Ray

Doesn't make you look like a moron if you prefer a new Bessa to a IIIF. If you've not used the camera and would not be inclined to when repaired, then the Bessa would be the sensible option.

Oleg K. did a very nice job on my IIIf at a reasonable cost. I think his company name is OK Vintage Cameras.

Same for me, you can send the IIIf to Oleg, he has even changed the curtains, and the camera smells very good (i like this grease odor...)

Or you may send it to eddy smolov in NY i don't know if he repairs leica.
The shipping will be faster, russian postmen can't always read the non cyrillic language so it can be long sometimes....
The usual cost is around $110 shipping include.

Screw-mount Leicas are indeed lovely cameras, but the Bessas are also excellent bits of kit. Choosing with your head doesn't make you a moron.
