After a particular bumpy ride, it seems that the screw(?) holding the movable tip on the film advance lever has fallen off.
Would anyone have any idea where to obtain a replacement screw for this (or if it even was a screw)

The same has happen to me and indeed, it is a very very short counter-sunk screw. I got a replacement at the Leica shop in Tokyo since Leica does not sell spare parts outside of Europe and US (as I was told).
Maybe Don from DAG could help you out?

It was a screw. I owned an M4P (same design advance). Mine came loose and I got it in time and it was a simple matter of tightening it and making sure it stayed that way. I recall I did see another Leica M and noticed that the screw had come loose to such an extent that it scratched the top plate where the lever sweeps across it. Seems to be a relatively common issue. I am sorry I cannot say where you might get one though but a good tech should be able to fudge a new one if needed (e.g. replacing it with one slightly larger by redrilling / retapping.) Some Leica Stores in Germany seem to hold large stores of spares of various types. I recall walking into one such store in Frankfurt.
