Hi, the rangefinder on my M9 has suddenly gone out of wack (severe back focus). The camera has no other issues.

Would you send it to Leica for adjustment, or trust an independent repair person?

I'm located in Denmark, so sending the body to Germany would be no big deal, but if a competent local person could do the adjustment faster (and I presume cheaper), I would prefer that?

Anyone know a good repair person near Copenhagen?

Thanks for your advice!

I'm not in a position to give you any leads in Copenhagen, but the RF mechanism on the Leica M9 can be adjusted by a qualified local technician.

Three options - do it yourself - quickest
Repair person - reasonably fast
Leica- can be slow.

But check the cam follower first. I had the same problem. On inspection I found a small shred of paper in the roller. No idea where it came from, it might have been there from new. I removed it, adjusted the roller to infinity and all was well.

Thanks for your response to my query. I'll have a close look at the cam follower later today.

Unless it looks like an obvious fix, I've decided to take the camera to a local technician.

did you knock it before?

No obvious knock before the problem arose. But, about two months ago I got a new bag which allows me to carry my M9 with me everyday, everywhere. So it's been transported around a lot more since then, compared to the previous year I've owned it. And I do ride my bicycle with it everyday as part of my commute to work. The commute sometimes involves running to catch a bus or a train, so it could be that the camera has been knocked about a bit, but no obvious knocks.

Just to followup, I had my M9 adjusted at One of Many Cameras (a relatively new photography shop in Copenhagen that I can warmly recommend to anyone local or visiting the city). The technician there did a good job, for a reasonable fee, with fast turnaround.

I'm happy to be using my M9 again!
