How does one "scale back" an M9? Do you crank it for power, getting rid of the battery (and perhaps the LCD)? Cloth shutter? That may not be too crazy to think about, though.
This is such a strange rumor... even though lavidaleica stated it isn't a rumor.
Full frame and an optical VF. Nobody ever said rangefinder though... perhaps Leica is doing electronic framelines and cheaper lenses with some other type of focus confirm? Seems very un-leica like though. EVF only would have made more sense for a rumor, but I guess time will tell.
I'm guessing $5000 or so, which is still too much.

Maybe they'll be nice and price it near $2k for all the M8 owners that have to replace their screens and can't....
I'm guessing $3500, which is around the price I see for used M9s on ebay. M9 keeps its price , M10 is higher.
How many M9s are you going to sell if you announce the M10 camera now, but it won't be available till next year (April)? Makes me wonder if someone else like Zeiss is planning on entering the market too.

Leica has issued an official statement....M8 owners with screen problems will receive special upgrades from the company.

On the 25th, a M9 sold for $4750 on ebay. On the 26th, two sold; $3,324.00 and $4050. Wow, I was wrong... I didn't realize they were down this much. Upon further review, the $3324.00 auction looks suspicious. All of his feedback is for cheap M9s.
