This comes from an old note of mine from 2005, back when the Leica USA Parts Department was still offering these components to the public. At the time, the parts cost $10 for the plastic condenser lens and $20 for the bottom‑dented mirror, plus a $10 processing fee. The full upgrade cost about $270 through Leica USA or $160 from DAG in 2005. For a skilled handyman, the job is entirely doable—if you can find the parts today. I upgraded all my Leica M6/M6TTL cameras.

The original Leica M6/M6TTL used a flat/curved reflex mirror, which could cause the rangefinder patch to flare, lose contrast, and become difficult to focus when struck by strong light at certain angles. Leica later improved the viewfinder by adding a condenser lens and a mirror with a bottom dent to address this issue, and the upgrade worked very well.

Bottom‑dented rangefinder mirror (Part No. 420‑070‑315‑044)
