i sent an M4 in need of a lot of work off to leica new jersey a couple of weeks ago. i got a little anxious today and called to check the status of the order and got a pretty weird response...
i was told the person(yes, singular) who repaired their M cameras 'resigned, err i mean retired' recently and they were in the process of training a couple of new folks to take over the job. she said they would have a better idea of what my camera will need in a few weeks when the new people are trained and to please have a little patience. i asked about sending it directly to solms because it needs the top plate replaced anyway and she asked me to give them some time to get up to speed.
i suppose i'm not in a hurry to get the camera back, but i am a little surprised by their response.

anyone else called them lately?

I haven't called them since the time it took them eight months to repair one of my lenses. :bang:

In all fairness, there have been many reports of their service improving, especially related to the M8 upgrades.

Even if no longer as dramatic as my bad experience, service delays are not uncommon with Leica New Jersey, now seemingly down from months to weeks when they occur. However, given the nebulousness of their current staffing, my suggestion would be that you request your camera be sent to Solms again.

I always go through Sherry. One of the nice things about her is that she's pretty close to Leica NJ - and goes by there usually around once a week. So if you send her something she can't (or would prefer not to) deal with, she can get it over to Leica.
I had a bizarre series of issues with Leica's repair operations on a 35 summilux. I think I would have gone crazy dealing with it, had she not been there to represent me.
