I sent my M6 classic to Leica NJ for a well deserved CLA. about 3 weeks later it returned sealed in the little plastic bag they ship in. I didn't even have to open the bag to see all the crap in the viewfinder , dust, dirt specs and even an eyelash. Needles to say I was mad. Just so happened to be a Friday the day Tom our local Leica sales rep stops by the store. Being the great guy he is he calls NJ and gets me a call tag to send it back. So 2 weeks later she comes back and eyepice is clean but low and behold the light meter only works 2 out of every 3 shots. after the second shot the LED's dont light up. So now it is on its way back to NJ for the 3rd time. For $350 for the CLA , I really expected alot more from Leica than this. I guess Quality control is on hold in NJ? :bang:

Afraid to say this but I've heard several horror stories like this one. That's the reason why when I sent my own M6TTL to NJ I was pretty tense. It came back... with the same problem it had when I sent it first, so it was time to send it out again, and talk to Tony, in the Service Department. Thanks to him, they rushed the camera and it not only came back on time for my trip to Costa Rica in May 2005, but also hasn't shown the light leak it had before.

So, John... contact Tony and tell him, very patiently, about your experience. He'll probably save the day for you.

I believe, that for some specific cameras, it is better to send them straight to the factory where they are manufactured for service. Sorry to hear this, John :(

I agree with you as well, had my Pentacon six serviced/upgraded at Pentacon factory, Dresden . They did outstanding work on the body and TTL prism, but they put the engraved ring on the TTL prism in the opposite side... and they forgot to service the lens they charged me for. They apologized and I've to send it back, it'll be done for free.

i've sent my leicas to sherry and dag, both of who do excellent work. those who have used their expertise agree. they will continue to get my business.

I too am concerned about NJ. I have two M7 bodies under warranty, one a gray market and the other a U.S. Passport. Leica have an option to extend the Passport warranty for an extra two years for $125 - I'm not so sure its worth it.

Used DAG once and lens shipped to my old address 1000 miles away, almost lost it. to me this cleaning is OK not super.

My recent experiances with DAG have been excellent. Fast, good, & reasonably priced. I'll go to him first from now on.

I have used Sherry twice and had great results. Not going to use leica again, unless the new MP I got fails , as its under passport. Sad they have been manufacturing basically the same camera, just different versions since the 50's and they can't get a simple CLA right

I have used Kinderman in Toronto Canada (formerly the leica distributor in Canada before they centralized in NJ). They have cleaned and brought to life old equipment that had not been used for 10+ years and once rescued by camera after an accident. Gerry Smith is the repair manager.

That's disgusting service. I guess I won't bother ever using them for service, and gray market Leica is worth the savings in lieu of warranty.

I Broke my digilux-2 lcd panel, still working just the outside plastic. I was thinking about send it to NYC but after reading this now in not so sure.

What options do I have?
