It's not that I should be doing work (ahem). Or that I have deadlines looming that I wish to not think about (ahem). But hey...

Came across this article about Leica on the BBC (Bl**dy Beautiful Camera? 😀 ) news website:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/6144038.stm

It isn't particularly insightful nor does it mention anything that hasn't already been discussed on this forum (many many times 😉 ), but if nothing else, it's more exposure. And if the Queen uses one, it must be good, right?

Rumour has it that there is a scene in the late '60's TV film "The Royal Family" in which Her Maj is using her M3 to take pictures. She is then approached by Lord Mountbatten who informs her she should get a nice modern camera like his. He then produces his 110 pocket instamatic. This may be apocryphal.

But then Lord Mountbatton hadn't invented the gun powder either. To put it mildly. It was he who was the mastermind behind the tragic Dieppe Raid and the so called re-invation of Malaya. A walking catastrophy in two shoes. - With his 110 Instamatic.

On the other hand: The queen shows good judgement and taste in this matter.

I've seen loads of photos of the queen and her Leica (walking the dogs, out and about abroad &c.).

In fact, check out the front page of the CRR website - http://www.angelfire.com/biz/Leica/

PS Just read the Beeb story - it's good to know even the Queen is careful enough to use an ever-ready case.

I would like to see some of the photos taken by the Queen🙄 .
There are two photos of the Queen in RFF gallery taken by Ourmanintangier (his galery is great)🙂

Wow -- she looks a lot like Helen Mirren! 🙂

I seem to recall she also got some version of the Leica SLR along the way -- probably better for those action shots at Ascot.

Queen's been using one for years. I think there's a postal stamp with her using one even. Don't know how Leica managed that one...

Stealth marketing is allways a mystery to us outsiders, I wonder how FIAT got into the Pater Noster/Lord's Prayer 🙂

Lots of HEER Leicas have been sold on ePrey too... 😱

I wonder if the poor fella got scammed. I think that camera, the real deal, was auctioned elsewhere earlier this year. I *think*

For QE2, any Leica is pocket change. I remember once seeing a shot of her, at a horse race I think, using a Leica that was no M. So she apparently has liked them for years. And they're still not as expensive as R-Rs or Bentleys.

Seems like the royals are partial to Leicas.

Reported a while ago, by my father-in-law: In 2003, during an interview with Good Morning America, Charlie, the host (can't recall his name, but I know it's not Barker) said to Sarah Ferguson, the exduchess, that he'd like to take good photos. She replied "Get a Leica!"

I guess if they're expensive, they must be good... 🙂
