Hi Folks-

I have a leica R 80mm lens which has the screw heads stripped that mount the lens mounting flange to the lens. Before I drill these out, I would like to order the replacements so I dont have the lens disassembled in pieces for an extended period of time. Does anyone know the screw size for the mounting flange mounting screws or can recommend a resource to discover this information?

thanks!

Rather than drilling them out, I suggest taking a very sharp, small chisel and cutting a slot into the existing screws. Then use a good flat blade screwdriver to screw them out. An impact driver may be able to get them out as well. All you need is one screw, and then you can match it up from a local source.

But I have to ask....why take them out anyway? If they're snug, just leave them alone. It's not like there's any pressure or stress on them, and they cannot back out when the lens is mounted on your camera.

there unfortunately is no local supply to source a screw this small in person, especially not metric which I assume this screw to be considering its source. Once I know the size and pitch however, order a replacement from mcmaster takes a second. If anyone can advise on the correct part, would be much appreciated.

thanks!

You most likely can still order the proper screws from Leica.

Hope you are an experienced lens tech.

A 80/1.4 R is a terrible thing to waste as a learning experience.
