Leica Service

Way ahead of you Ray.

I'm taking my IIIc in to Mr Yau (he lives about 15 min by car from my place) next week sometime.

I got referred to him by folks at my local camera shop.

Cheers
Dave

Let us know how it turns out, Dave. Might be worth the extra mail time to Toronto.

Insurance costs should be the same, but I wonder how it would work with Customs?

And that's the same thing I wondered regarding sending anything to Sherry or DAG...

I'm on this too, and sent an email to David Lau, who was confused and stated that he did have a Leica projector, but that he did not repair Leicas.

The original Pnet post had a typo. The repair person is named David Yau.

Customs isn't a problem for equipment being repaired and returned.

The BIG problem is customs broker fees. UPS charges $30 in fees if they carry the camera across the border. This for doing essentially nothing.

The way to do this is to use the mail both ways. I've done this many times with no duties, and no broker fees since no broker was involved.

Kindermann insists on using UPS to return cameras to the US, probably because UPS picks up at their shop where the Canada Post probably doesn't.

I gave him a call. Seems like a very nice fellow. He can use UPS, FedEx or regular post. He actually prefers regular mail, as long as there is some sort of delivery confirmation.

Regular CLA (maintainance, no major repair) would be $120 CDN, plus about $30 CDN for parts.

I told him that he will most likely be very busy soon! ;)
