I have a recently claed m3 that has an annoying habit I can excercise the shutter all day on all speeds and it is fine once I put a roll of bulk loaded film in I can take a few pictures and put the camera down for a day or so come back shoot a shot and the shutter curtain sticks it take a hearty whack in the palm of my hand to dislodge it is it the bulk film canister? tension too high? I currently have a factory loaded roll in it now to give it a test any thoughts?
thanx,Robert :bang: :bang:

Try factory-loaded film just to see if that makes a difference. Also, does this happen when you leave the camera unloaded for a few days and then try exercising it? Might be time for the M3 to make a return visit to the shop that CLA'd it.

the camera can sit for weeks unloaded and i can pick it up and fire the shutter 40 times with no drama put in bulk film and its a drama queen, I try not to whack it too hard but since my built into the hand whackometer is slightly out of calibration I have a hard time telling (lol)

If your camera needs to be whacked on the hand, no matter what kind of film you're using, then whoever did your CLA must think "CLA" stands for "Clip this Loser for All he's worth." Cameras are designed to operate without ballistic energy input. Send it back to him and tell him he screwed up.

An excessive whack on a Leica, especially an older one, can separate the RF beamsplitter prism, and then you'll have a really expensive repair on your hands (no pun intended.)
