Perhaps I'm a slow learner, but I finally got the hang of shooting with the Leicavit. Yea, baby. Shoot, click, shoot, click. Left-eyed no problem, keep your eye on the subject.

Side benefit: looks super sevlte as a bp rig. Wooohoo.

Back in the day you never saw a black paint Leicavit equipped MP or M2 with all the paint intact or a dent free top plate. The people who bought them USED them, but everybody complained that they were a pain when you shot verticals. Of course you could still use the top mount wind lever. Back then a NEW M2 listed for $200,
and sometimes you could find a decent used body for $100 or less. The 'vit listed for about 50 bucks and use ones were $25. Many people covered the chrome with Scotch black "Photographic Masking Tape", thicker than standard masking tape (and they still make the stuff) so it offers a bit of padding. 3M still makes the the tape. (It could also hide the infamous "red dot" on today's Leicas.)

Glad you like the winder Paul. It really improves the operation for a left eyed shooter. But remember it's like walking with scissors in your hands now, don't fall and impale yourself with the trigger!

Joe, you are right. I've had both types of winders. The Rapidwinder is great. My samples were a bit quieter than the Leica model, though neither is loud at all. The Rapidwinder of course has a great reputation for being reliable and has a lot fewer parts, plus Tom guarantees them forever anyway. That said, I don't hear much about Leicavit's breaking down either. The only drawbacks to the Rapidwinder that I could mention is that the Leicavit is a little smaller, and being a Leica product, the finish is a perfect match to your camera, if you care about such things.

TKS for the tip.
