My "newly" purchased eicavit SYOOM was bought from Adorama. It arrived as a two stroke instead of its designed one stroke action.

Adorama's warranty stipulates that I send it back for them to make the repair. I have specifically asked them if they have a Leica specialist (they do not send it out, I am told) to perform the adjustment. I am told that they do.

I am quite skeptical (wildly unfounded) of their in house technician ability to do the job correctly.

Does any body have any information concerning Adorama's technician's competency?

I have also contacted Youxin Ye. It is his opinion that in just needs an adjustment to bring it within specs. His fee is only $20 pus shipping.

What are your thoughts?

I don't know if that's your case, but I've had a situation that after the CLA of my Leica IIIf it started to have problems with SYOOM.
The winder was acting strange as I could wind film/shutter not in one, but in two strokes only. After the first stroke the shutter curtains moved one third of their way, then only after the second stroke completed the passage. Furthermore I was still able to move SYOOM's lever after that freely (without winding the film actually).
And my repairman identified the problem inside the camera - not the winder itself (which was not CLA'ed at the time and worked OK before the camera's CLA). He said it was because he has set something wrong in the camera mechanism. Sorry I can't recall technical details.

Youxin Ye has the camera and leicavit and is doing the adjustment needed for normal operation. Funkydog's posting has nailed the issue.

Thanks

The problem was quite likely with the camera, not the winder. Many cameras receive CLA's where a careless technician resets the winding spindle incorrectly. Fix the spindle in the camera, presto - SYOOM works perfectly. I have had this happen twice, with a If and a IIIg (the latter CLAd and messed up at Solms).
