Hi I came across this lens in a bundle from an auction, its a leitz Wetzlar, and I think its a wide angle from viewing through it on a ground glass screen. It says on the lens front rim Leitz Wetlar 2*.. Has anyone any ideas Thanks.

Are there any aperture blades, can you set the aperture?
Does it have a focusing ring? If not it might be an enlarger lens.

Looks like a microscope objective - the lens closest to the glass slide. It probably screwed into a rotating turret of different magnifications.

Whatever
Might be one of these: http://www.savazzi.net/photography/photomacrolenses.htm

Agree. Sure looks like a microscope lens.
Remember that Leitz was basically a microscope maker before it went into making Leicas.

It has a aperture ring lug the same as a 50mm collapsible elmar, it has a serial number 804182.
Thanks

I think Greyscale may be right. Enlarger lens.

It is showing some lens separation also unfortunately
Thanks. Max aperture? Focal length? (If marked, of course).

Sorry but i don't have that information would to work it out with a ground glass screen and a brick wall or similar regular form of object but haven't got that far.
Thanks Anthony

I think after a little more research that the element on the front is a Elpik 2 ?, but why it is on a lens I do not know ?.

The ELPIK is a supplementary/close up lens attachment for the 50mm f/3.5 Elmar, I believe.
Not sure what it would do if it were attached to an enlarging lens. Maybe give a larger print size for a given height?
I was looking around on line and didn't see any Leitz microscope objectives that looked like this.
I did find another forum that may be worth searching:

This is way too big to be a microscope lens.

Can't argue with this.
I do think you are correct in saying it's an enlarger lens.
I do wonder, though, if it is maybe an incomplete lens? Missing an outer barrel of some kind?

This is a Leitz microscope lens, mounted in an M42 lens cap for some kind of photomicrography that I could not get to work. Microscope objectives are tiny little things. And yes, I think that it is an incomplete lens.

Microscope objective.
RMS (Royal Microscope Standard) is 0.7965" x 36TPI. 0.7965" is 20.2mm (about 2cm). From the images in the OP, I would estimate the mount of this lens is about 2cm diameter. The threads and lens mount appear much like some of my microscope objectives. Leitz made a number of microscope lenses over the years. I have a couple. One is much larger than this though
(for a low mag bino scope).
Sure looks like a microscope objective to me.

Alternatively RMS = Royal Microscopist Society, or some variation of this. The RMS mount has become the primary standard mount for microscope objectives for quite a while, especially for microscope equipment produced in Europe and "the Old World". The JIS standard also exists, more recently, for some equipment (but not all) produced in Japan. A microscope objective made by Leitz is almost guaranteed to be RMS.
