lens repair for brian

For those who do not know, Chris Eve is probably the foremost Retina expert in the world, and is a trained repairman. If you ever need Retina advice, he is the guy to EMail.

A friend of mine at work, a senior optical engineer also suggested the UV cured Epoxy for the decemented elements. We have the setup at work. I brought up the "Optical Goo" and he said "try it". We will find out today! If Carl did not shoot it down, its worth a try!

Got the resukts from the Canon 135: The goo worked. The DIY repaired Canon 7 also worked; need to calibrate the RF a litlle tighter. On to testing the Canonet's.

The Optical Goo is actually a thick oil in a consistency of vaseline. The construction of the Canon lens barrel with a brass spacer in between the lens element and the retaining ring places contact pressure on the elements. They become self-aligning. This trick would not work on all setups, but would on must 35mm RF lenses where the cemented pairs are not "free-standing".
