To work out the flare issue on the GSN (nice!!! lens otherwise) I got a cheap rubber 55mm screw-in lens hood.
...well, I didn't cross my mind (you can tell I'm SLR man) at the time, but the shade is blocking the rangefinder leaving just a very small portion of the (already dim) yellow patch.
So, what's the solution? What are my options besides carefully picking my shots?

cut a chunk out of the shade.

Small straight tube variety which are as effective as those stupid funnel shades anyway. I have fallen in love with the one for my new 50 2.8 Elmar and use it on every fifty now. I may get an extra one.
Make one from a filter and sheet brass if you have to. Some skill required.
