lens shades

I tend to use shades on all my lenses - sometimes for flare control - if the lens is prone to it. Mostly it is my "bumper" though. usually cheaper to replace than a front-element.
Some of my Nikon Rf's work well without shades as the front elements are fairly deeply recessed - but as they are older lenses - direct light can flare.
we are having a break from the rain tomorrow (at least according to the weather-man) so I will be shooting wildly with the new Heliars.

I will be waiting for these, as I recently acquired the Heliar Classic 50 f/3.5, but the weather and my health have really sucked the past few weeks.

As to hoods, I also tend to hood almost every lens. I still need to find out which hood for the Summaron 35 f/3.5 LTM. Anyone?

From my Hexars to my Contax Tvs to my Konica Auto S3 to my lone, remaining Evil SLR (OM-2n) and EVIL Oly C-8080, everything gets a hood. occasionally useful flare-protection, and really cheap damage insurance. (Well, the Holga 135 doesn't have one, but seriously...)

Sometimes. I have found the ZMs almost immune to flare apart from the 28, which can be a little prone compared to the rest. I bought a hood for it but I am not sure it makes that much difference.

I am using them more and more for protection than anything.
