Hi all,

Is there anyone out there who produces a lens tab that can be attached to the Zeiss m lenses?

I've read about the older hot star tabs , how ever they don't seem to be in production any longer. I have seen the lens TAAB product however i would prefer a fixed option.

Thanks!

I have TAABs on several of my lenses. Though it's not what you think you want, the price is good enough to hold you until you find that thing which does not exist. 🙂 I fastened mine on with double-stick foam tape--they are quite slippery on bare metal and don't like to stay in place.

One benefit I didn't anticipate that you should know about is that the ring that holds the whole thing together has good traction for the fingers, and is a real improvement over the lens' own ring. Now that I've experienced it, I would use it even if the tab weren't there.

But doesn't the Zeiss has this little "focus-nibble" instead of a tab? This would make it very hard to apply the TAAB. I have a TAAB also, and think, it's okay.

Maybe a good solution would be to 3D-Scan the Ring, including the nibble and then 3D-print a tab, that fits on the nibble. (or let someone print it, there are services for that already). I'm currently waiting for a new 3D-printer and will do that then for my 35mm Distagon and the 50mm Planar.

It would be relatively easy to design one and get it printed like I did for the 35 summilux, but the issue would be how are you going to fix it? Unless you want to drill into the lens you are going to have to glue it on. A 3D scan of the focus 'nub' and surrounding focus ring would make it pretty easy, I could adapt one of my designs for it without too much trouble.

A few years ago I made tabs for my Canon 35mm f/2 and my ZM 21mm f/2.8. Both out of 1/4" plexiglass. I used a Dremel tool and a small dowel with fine sandpaper to grind out the notch to match the tab on the focus ring of the ZM. I also ground in a bevel and a wider finger notch in the side that my finger would touch to focus. They both worked great and when I sold the lenses, the buyers wanted the tabs to remain. I used 3M double sided outdoor tape for adhering numbers to exterior walls. I used this same adhesive to stick the chrome "220 DIESEL" badge on the back of my 1972 Benz. Did that in 2015 shortly after I bought the car and it is holding up fantastic. Never spending more than two or three nights during that time in a garage. Good tape.
