With a digital M on the near horizon I can't wait to see the chimping going on between two or more Leica M8 photographers!

Yes, but many of us routinely keep the LCD stowed in the "chimp-guard" position...

Call a baboon, I wouldn't care.....

If I had the $$$ to get an M8 I would chimp like a muther just to look a the thing as much as I could!!!

I recall the disdain that some die-hard leica snobs on pnet and other sites exhibited toward the "chimpers" checking their exposures on the LCD of a digicam or DSLR. I guess chimping is acceptable now that leica makes a digital M.

Blather.

Chimp away. If a camera has an LCD screen, might as well use it.

Oh, yeah? Hands up, every digicam user who has ever missed a good picture happening right in front of him, because he was gazing raptly at his previous pictures on the LCD! (I'm typing slowly because my hand is up...)

I have rarely missed shots due to chimping, but have been frustrated on occasion with shutter lag and waiting for the camera to record the image on the CF card. Although it is rare in my use of digital cameras, I can understand the interest of some folks in fast 3 or 5 frame burst modes with digital cameras, and the freedom afforded by film cameras in this regard- shots as fast as one can cycle the film advance or motor drive. Normally, when I am in shooting mode, I am "in the moment", and not interested in chimping.
