Lightroom 3 (Final) available

98,60 EUR update price incl. 21% VAT is not so bad. I expected it to be more expensive.
But I still don't like it that I have to pay 21% VAT only because the download server is located in Ireland.

That might explain why the download is £7 more expensive than the boxed product in the UK (which is just crazy).

The current Lightroom 3 public beta 2 will expire on June 30, 2010.

If it would trigger the expiration by contacting the Adobe server, and blocking the connection would prevent that - I don't see how that could be illegal (in Europe).

I've been using the Lightroom 3 Beta version for a while, and decided to wait until 3 was released before cashing in my free download of Lightroom that came with my M9. I downloaded it this morning . . . Lightroom 2. I have a query in with Adobe, let's see if they do the right thing here.

I asked Leica via Twitter about a possible switch to LR 3 licenses, and they responded with the following:

@sctt on LR3 release: we´ll prepare something official but I would not download LR2 from our site now if I were a customer!

So it sounds like Leica will begin offering LR 3 licenses at some point. I just hope it's before another 30 days. ;)

I'm still waiting on Adobe's response. I can't see how it behooves them to be stingy about it. (Besides the obvious $99 upgrade fee, of course.)

The demosaicing, noise reduction and sharpening truly rock. I have never been happy with night shots with u4/3 cameras, but here is an example of what the new LR3 can do:

This was shot with an Oly EP2, Lumix 20/1.7 wide open, 800 ISO with 1/3 stop underexposure. Hard to see on the screen, but what you get is good detail and very fine grain - should look very good on a print.

Cheers,
Kirk
