Lightzone Project

This is version 4.0...a whole lot more converter support than the old LZ...Fuji milf cameras are supported!

Windows version downloaded fantastically on my Vista POS.

Downloaded and using on Ubuntu. X-Pro1 RAW files and on my new Linux machine. It's a shame darkTable and RAWTherapee couldn't do the same. So far it looks good but a lot of functionality which will take a few sittings to get my head around.

I bought a LightZone license back when it was a commercial entity. I thought it was pretty good, but I didn't have enough free time to master it.

I'm a big fan of open-source software, so this project is great news indeed! Just downloaded a copy; will have to find some time to play with it, very soon.

I had no idea LightZone had gone open-source! Fantastic development. Darktable's UI never felt right to me - maybe this is finally it (or can be). Thanks for posting.

thanks for the tip.

i thought, i already knew any image processing software for linux. but never heard of that one. looks very interesting.

what an interesting photo editing software! to
i really like how the user is able to select the "zone" he/she wants to work on.

It's great to see it back a bit more into the limelight. It really opened my eyes to a more natural way (being a "zonie") to process my images. I had the trial version back in 2007 or so, but one of these days I am going to load it up again on my mac.

I've installed the beta version of LZ 4.0 for Intel Mac on my iMac at work and I'm very impressed. Logical layout and workflow, useful presets, and the shadow detail recovery is fantastic without introducing artifacts.

I've downloaded the older ver. 3.9.2 to try on my personal PPC Powermac G5 at home. Unfortunately, it won't have the RAW converter for my X-E1 RAF files, but it does such a good job on OOC jpgs that perhaps I won't mind. Luckily (for me at least) I've got the SilkyPix converter that only seems to work on PPC macs, so I'm ok for basic RAF conversions for the time being.

I've never stopped using LightZone as my (only) image processor. For someone coming from a wet darkroom background, and who still shoots film and scans the negatives, it's a simple and very intuitive program for doing the same things I do in the darkroom. (Am talking about B&W film here, hardly ever used it for color.)

I just got it a few days ago and it really good, one question printing, when I print
on 5x7 or 8x10 I get this wide border going around the picture. How do you make
that border thinner. I did try different setting but no go.

UPDATE - I'm a little late to the PPC party, I'm afraid. Even though 3.9.2 installed and runs perfectly, it is the trial version. From what I can glean from Lightzone's website and other searches, the license is no longer available (or at the very least, questionable.) So, I'll be able to use it for another 29 days and then I'm out of luck on my home computer until I upgrade to an Intel machine - not a likely scenario for the time being.

Such a shame because Lightzone was THE very best solution for my G5 mac and my budget.

Lightzone is still alive

I used it years ago, but bouncing around with having to put a virtual machine on my computer plus Ubuntu became to big a hassle. It was great to use once I got it on my screen. Then I had to replace my computer and didn't use it again. I see it is more flexible now.

I just watched a few videos from the light zone project. They have added a ton of stuff since I used it. It is a replacement for Light Room now.
