I have en route a B+W Top-Pol 86mm linear polarizer that was recently won on an ebay auction. I intend to use this with my meterless manual focus SLR.

My question is this: What exposure compensation, if any, does a linear polarizer require? And out of curiosity, does this compensation equally apply to a circular polarizer, or does the compensation amount vary across the two types of polarization?

Thanks

B+W will have the filter factor engraved on the filter ring. Do not meter by the apparent effect or through the filter; do it the old-fashioned way, by metering and then putting on the filter and applying the compensation to the camera settings.

Once you have done this for a roll of film, or two, you can develop your own filter factor. It will be amazingly close to what B+W said it should be.
