OK so I just received a FED 2 from Russia and for the life of me I can't figure out how to load the film. There are 2 screws on the bottom which I have turned every way they can and the bottom will not pop off. the back doesn't open, nothing. the shutter seems to work fine.
the serial No. on the body is 803131. any help so I can start shooting with this thing.

The best camera is one that still works!
After turning the screws a half turn each the whole back should slide downwards and off which makes them extremely easy to load!

Hi,try turning the keys both in the same direction.Leave them extended and push with your thumbs on the back straight down. The back and bottom separate. If that won't do it turn the keys 180 around and try again.Don't pry=light leaks.Advance your film then change shutter speed, big rule!

Turn both screws. They turn in opposite directions of each other. The whole back comes off.

Unwind the two locks - when they are in the 'open' position they won't close down.
With the camera face down and the top (winders and all the top deck) against your body, push with your thumbs on the back and slide it away from you.
I tried levering mine the first few times and it doesn't improve the look of the camera, at all!
Mine is catching quite tightly at the top, but two thumbs get it off the body real easy if I do it this way.

Hey there, fellow Fed 2 virgin
I too had a problem opening the back of the Fed2 I just got.
Looks like the back is very stiff to slide out after a prolonged period of non-use. Just be firm but gentle, with the lens down and the top of the camera facing your stomach at waist length or on your lap, use both of your thumb to push away the back of the body while gripping the front body with your other fingers. It should come off.
Now I just need a spool to load a film into
Edit: Oops, just saw your post above, never mind...
