I assumed you meant precedent, but yes -- the term Rangefinder has been used wrong for a few years now. It seems that it's ok as long as you tack on the word style.

The ones that really stretch my generosity in the use of the "rangefinder-style" terminology are the Sony, Olympus, and the GF - they don't even have an EVF in the top left corner, let alone a window-finder of some sort like the Fujis... sheesh!

Even with film seems like a lot of folks think any camera with a viewfinder is a 'rangefinder'. Such cameras as the Rollei 35, Olympus Trip, and other scale focusing 35mm cameras are often lumped in with rangefinders.
