I am looking for a tripod head for vertical shots. Do you have any recommendations? My head can't support my camera with heavy lens attached to it while the camera is in the vertical position. It doesn't swivel sideways, either.

Please help!!!

Can you use an L-bracket, such as the ones by Kirk Enterprises? Keeps the camera stable and secure because its still right in line with the center of gravity and not hanging off to the side. I do a lot of verticals and would not go back to doing it the old way before I got L-brackets for all my cameras.

As a rule of thumb if your head can't support your system without slack, you should probably be using your lens collar and probably also a gimbal head. In the case of vertical shots the gimbal and collar will let you quickly adjust between horizontal and vertical without recentering the image

I use the Kirk Enterprises L-Bracket along with an Acratech GP1 head on a set of Feisol CT3442 Tournament legs. It works very well and stabilizes a Leica SL with Telyt-R 250mm lens and 2x Extender-R very nicely for portrait oriented shooting.

Arca Swiss make adjustable L brackets which are useful since you don't have to keep buying a bracket for different cameras.

L brackets are elegant & expensive and will not fit the next camera.

Look at camera flip bracket by Stroboframe, $29 at B&H.

A lens that heavy probably needs a tripod collar.

The Kirk bracket is universal and configurable to both bodies and lenses with non-rotating tripod mounts.
