After installing the latest FW 1.196 the responsiveness of the discrete shutter mode as well as battery life dropped.
I decided to revert to one of the previous FW versions, unfortunately they are nowhere to be found on the net.

I would appreciate if someone who still has them could send them to my email.

Which one would you like? I have 1.196, 1.176, 1.174, 1.160 and 1.158.
Note tha it is not always possible to go back.

The battery life didn't drop. Leica just changed the calibration of the battery and the point at which it determines a battery is dead. Before upgrading the firmware whenever my battery was low my M9 would often begin to write corrupt images or not write images at all that I had taken. The new firmware was intended to alleviate this situation.

The first thing I did when I bought the M9 is update the firmware to 1.196. I have no idea how it works with the older firmware :D

Any particular reason why the 1.196 is not popular?

Apparently Discreet shutter release mode doesn't work. And the battery management tells you that you have too little power earlier in the real discharge of the battery. For both of these reasons I didn't upgrade.

Thank you Richard! I never tried discreet mode to be honest. I will check it tonight. As for the batteries, I have no complaints so far, but I'm a light shooter, a habit I acquired from shooting film :)

PS: forgot I had the M9 with me. Both discreet and discreet/soft are working properly.

The problem is that discreet and continuous together may cause an occasional need for a second shutter press to fire. And the battery does indeed shut down before there are write problems to the SD card if the battery is in less than optimal condition. That is all. I use 1.196 without any problem at all.

Guys, could anyone please share 1.176 with me! Jaap is not responding and I need it badly. I am going on a long trip to India and my M9 is almost unusable with 1.196. Please help!

Update:

Thanks to Steve, I am back on 1.176 now. It installed flawlessly over 1.196 and now my camera works as great as ever! No shutter delays anymore!

Cheers,
Greg

Details details details. Safety belts were considered freedom-killing devices. Still are by older, unshakeable (and hence invincible) drivers ;)
