Certainly interested in the f/4 18mm - a nice length taking into account the R-D1's crop...
And a 28mm finder should match pretty well...
Given the price of their faster brethren you'd think they would be sensibly priced - they clearly designed with the M8 in mind though...

Depends on what you can afford, really, but I reckon for most of us they are quite out of our budgets.

My guess they'll come in at around a grand USD at popflash- perfect and a lot less then Leica glass.

In the mid 80's I shot Rollei 3003 slr's and had Zeiss glass for it. One of the lenses was the 18 f4. I had previously shot leicaflex SL's and MOTS and found the 18 Zeiss much better than that particular generation of Leitz 19. I'm looking forward to this lens and the 85 hitting the market.

fancy that...
Cosina decides to make a Bessa R4 (with 21 and 25mm framelines and M-mount capability) and suddenly.. there's Zeiss all gung ho with the 21mm f4.5 M mount.
I'm not surprised - I knew that if a Cosina M-mount body is going to show up that Zeiss (or CV) is not going to be too far behind with M-mount lenses to warrant that body. Let's face the facts, CV is not making bodies for Leica lenses.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset by this - I just would prefer a company saying "Yes, we've made X and we'll be making lenses for X in the near future".
Mind you, if I, being the low-brow cro-magnon man that I am, can figure this out, I'm sure the rest of you were able to do the same a lot longer before me
I'm sure they're as sharp as ever and priced accordingly; seeing as how they have the Zeiss name on them (even though they'll be made by Cosina).
Cheers,
Dave

Considering the 21/2.8 is priced at $1000, the 21/4.5 better be priced no higher than $800, otherwise whats the point? I think Zeiss will have a hard time selling this lens on size alone if its faster sibling is only slightly more expensive.

Yep.. you know that's coming too - after all - the discontinued CV 25mm in LTM can't be replaced by the more expensive Zeiss 25mm in M-mount can it???
Can it ????
Only Messr Kobayashi knows for sure...

this is actually old news.
they announced the new glass awhile ago, maybe even before the r4 was announced.

Good point Kyle- I was thinking more about the 18mm and not the 21mm (I have the 21mm and love it).
What I would like to see is a sharper 12mm then my CV lens for my RD-!s.

Anyone outside Zeiss know when we can expect these lenses?
