Hi,

I just got a deal for the scanner,
but the seller said he lost the disc...

I think the 4990 at least come with a SilverFast SE, right?
if he lost the disc... is there anyway that I can download a working version from Epson or somewhere else?

Thanks

oh,
I am using Win7.
The problem is 4990 should bundle with SilverFast SE.
so I wonder if i can get it back for free in somewhere...

Use Epson Scan. Learn it. It's good.
Worst case, buy Vuescan.

Give it up. SiverFast SE was/is next to useless. Use Epson Scan.

The upgrade price for Silverfast SE6 (to run on windows 7) is $34. The new price is $49. Chances are you would have to upgrade in any case and if the software was registered you may have problems. So, for an extra $15 you can buy it new. However, if you are going to shell out, then I'd suggest AI rather than SE. SE doesn't come with batch scanning.

As to comparisons with Epson scan, I prefer Silverfast and SF is about twice as quick as the Epson software. However, Epson does the job OK and gives you plenty of options to play with.

I have a 4990 BTW.
