I know that RFF might not be the best place to share love for Nikons, but I count that manual aspect of these cameras will prevail 🙂 Yesterday I managed to steal a few hours away from my family vacation and go shooting. I set out to make a few photos of "continental" Istria, Croatia's big peninsula in the Adriatic sea.

The main camera was my Hasselblad 500C and matching Planar 80mm. In addition, I had my Nikons, FM and FM2n, one loaded with Tri-X (I didn't have any Acros with me :-( ) and Fuji Pro400H in the other. I had following lenses:
Cosina 20mm f/3.8 - really not up to the Nikkor standards, just for fun with the FOV it gives
Nikkor 28mm f/2.8 AI-S
Nikkor 35mm f/2.8 AI-S
Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI - i.e. Longnose
Nikkor 105mm f/2.5 AI

The reason for this post is that I wanted to share with you how much I enjoy shooting with Nikons, compact, simple to operate, solid, as if they would happily keep clicking if I went to the end of the world with them! Lenses are not compact compared to RF lenses, but compared to today's SLR plasticky lenses, they seem indestructible and made to last. They can produce some decent pictures, too, which is not a downside... ;-) I especially appreciate simplicity of my two manual Nikons. You compose, set the aperture on a ring on the lens, meter, focus and fire away. That's it! No buttons which you never know what you're pressing, no menus and sub-menus, no guessing what metering algorithm will do, no chimping to see if the camera managed to miss a focus, just basic picture taking! Don't get me wrong, this wasn't my first experience with this Nikon setup, I have these cameras and lenses for few years now, but I'm always taken with the great experience they provide. If I ever set out on a pure photographic trip I could easily make it with my Nikons alone (I would just add a Nikon 20mm)!

Photographs? Well, I had fun and got to fondle my cameras, I think that's enough for one outing. I'll try to make some photos next time ;-) But should anything half decent come out of this outing, I'll post them here...

Yah. The FM2 is just one of those perfect machines. I had one 20 years ago and about five years ago I repurchased. Just what you need and no more. I also think that the F4 was one of the most perfect cameras ever produced. I had thousand and thousands of perfect exposures from mine -- it was the reason I sold my original FM2.

+1 on MF Nikons, especially the compact bodies! I fell in love with the FM and it was my first Nikon. Been trying to get around to buying an FM2n for years but can't seem to get there, not sure why.

But, the FE2 camera is such a joy to use that I may wind up collecting these bodies over time as they are ultimately beautiful, ergonomic, fun to use and quite inexpensive these days!

Yes, i have every one of the manual focus bodies bar the FG20 and a lot of other gear Minolta, Pentax,Leica R, etc.
But the Nikons are special to me, they give confidence that they always do the job somehow. But lately i have changed more to the autofocus models i like the F100 a lot, but if you need the job done take the F5. anyhow have fun. that's whats all about.

The whole reason I bought a digital Nikon was to be able to tap into the huge (and cheap) availability of old manual focus lenses, and then it seemed logical to pick up a film body. Flash forward five years, and it turns out that I use my film Nikons a lot more than the digital one. My favorite is the FG--small, durable, tehnologically adequate, reliable, unusually ergonomic, and ridiculously cheap to buy.

I also have quite a few Nikons (including an S2 RF) and get along well with all of them. I used the 8008s for years and still have it. What a great camera and so many perfect photos. I'd have to say I am a Nikon guy!

Another ultra-keen Nikon fan here !
Extra-special soft spot for the F (I have 5), also have one F2, two F3 HP's and a F3P.
Lenswise, about 30 Nikkors ranging from 20mm to 300mm.
Wonderful kit and always a joy to use.

I share in the Nikon joy. From 1969 to the present, I've enjoyed the F, FM, FM2n, FE2, F2, F3/T, F3, another FM, and now a black F again. All terrific cameras ... the F3/T, F and FMx have been my favorites.

The AF Nikons never turned me on, the DSLR line started to become interesting again with the D300 model. I might pick up a D700 sometime.

Nikon lenses have always been workhorses, I don't remember how many I've enjoyed over all these years. Currently, I have the Nikkor 50/1.2AI-S, pre-AI Micro-Nikkor 55/3.5, Nikkor-H 85/1.8, and Micro-Nikkor 105/2.8AI-S. I use them on the F, on my Olympus E-1, and on a couple of mirrorless bodies too (GXR-M and E-PL1 currently). All superb performers. I'd like that CV40/2 as well.

The Nikon System ... a great system. It's been my companion alongside Leica RFs and medium format, subminiature cameras for 44 years. 🙂

Another fan

I too love the MF Nikons...
I had an FM with the OEM 50mm f/1.8 when they where the new kid on the block, and I now own a Nikon FE with all Nikkor Glass....

24mm f/2.8 Ais,
50mm f/1.8 Ais Long Nose,
55mm f/3.5 Micro (last non-Ai version by S#),
100-300mm f/5.6 Ais Macro....

a great kit... all I want to complete the kit:

35mm f/2 Ai
85mm f/1.8 Ai

I may add an FM3a at one point.

I think this series of bodies FM on to FM3a where the best Nikon's as far as the fixed prism houses.

+1 Nikon guy - F3 + FM3A, with...

Nikon 15mm f/3.5 AI-S
Nikon 20mm f/2.8 AI-S
Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AI-S
Nikon 50mm f/1.2 AI-S
Nikon 20-35mm f/2.8 AF
VC 40mm f/2 SL 1
VC 75mm f/2.5 SL

I bought my first Nikon last year, a FE with an 50mm Series E lens. Nice camera, but it doesn't quite thrill me as much as my Olympus OM2n for some reason.

I'm on the lookout for the F3 and FE2 and have just been alerted to the virtues of the FM2. Got to find myself a nice 50mm Nikkor as well at some point, as well as a 28mm.
