Took the SP out with a Nikkor-S 5cm F1.4, "Japan" lens.

Being fast and sharp means being over-corrected for spherical aberration, and Donut Shaped Bokeh.

The Nikkor-S 5cm F1.4 is the Donut-Bokeh King.

Something that all real Nikon RF addicts must learn to love, or at least accept.

Stopping down to F2.8 calms things back down.

Not that there is anything wrong with calming things down once in a while.

Anyway- having titanium Shutters means never being afraid of fast lenses and Sunsets.

I like the second better, not because of the bokeh but because the colors appear warmer (at least on my monitor). That lens is interesting ! ... and nice shots !

Sonnar formula lenses are interesting in that they take on a new personality when used stopped-down. Almost a "Jekyll and Hyde" shift when opened up to full aperture. Color balance, focus, and contrast all shift to the "wild-side" when this lens is opened to full aperture. The effect with the Nikkor-S 5cm f1.4 is more pronounced that that of my other Fast Sonnars. I shimmed a J-3 for the Nikon for a softer look when used wide-open.

Okay. "Donuts" is inaccurate, as they are way too thin to be mistaken for donuts. And too Homer Simpsonish to be taken as a serious optical term.

Nikkor Glowing Rings of Light.

Ok, Now I feel better Ol' Buddy.
Lets see some more of that "Love that Over-corrected for Spherical Aberration look"

I LOVE that first picture, it has a "dreamy" look to it. How's that for "a serious optical term"?

An older shot, and an older 5cm F1.4- an NKT. The Bokeh is a bit softer, but ready to go wide-open and close-up.

Hard to say which I like better. Both photos stand well by themselves.

Your mention of Sonnar lenses has be wondering if I can get anything close to that with my Kiev 1.8 Sonnar copy. Prbably too much too hope for, but now I'm going to try.

Thanks for the idea.
