I need some help. I'm trying to figure out if this lens is screwed onto an adapter similar to the one it's propped up on in the picture.
If it is, what is the process for getting it off 'cause it's really, really tight.🙁

Yes, this is (most likely) an original Leica adapter on the back of the Elmar (the adapter itself is worth around 50 bucks).

I do the following: (1) mount the lens on an M body, (2) put the lens to close focus, and (3) unscrew the lens by grabbing via infinity lock.

Don't apply too much force, otherwise you might damage the camera's lens mount. For really tough cases, I have a cheap Chinese M to u4/3 adapter only for that purpose.

Roland.

Not sure if I can describe the differences I see looking thru the VF with just the adapters in place. Not sure of the terminology used to describe the various lines/windows etc.
Is this the right 'forum' to discuss this?

Why not? Try taking digital/macro pix through the M VF to show which framelines come up with the Elmar. M-sters will be able to tell you whether you're seeing 35 or 50 etc. Which also depends on which M you have. M3, M4, later? Be sure to ID the body and lens.

Hi,

Look on the adapter and it will tell you: hint - 5cm is the same as 50mm.

On an M2 there are no 28mm frame lines but the M2 does have 35mm frame-lines. If you are unsure then I suggest a read of the manual.

If you've no manual then search and you'll find them for sale and also pirated PDF's to download, which would be very naughty.

Regards, David

Judging from the aperture scale on the 3,5 Elmar, I would suspect it is a pre-1950 lens...

Did the M have a frame-line for 35mm, or was it just the outer edge of the VF window ?
