Well-known
I stumbled on a book in chinatown (philadelphia) called Shanghainese 1990-2000 and I was blown away. The photographer was Lu Yuanmin (chinese I believe). The street shots within are absolutely stunning. Some are candid, some aren't, but all have this emotionality within them. You have a complete sense of place and person. He's close to his subjects in most shots and the results are just amazing. The shots are all people, taken inside and out. I was just wondering if he's known in the west at all?
Here's a link to the book I bought with a few shots: http://blog.westca.com/blog_ShanghaiABC/p/55949.html
And a link to an essay on chinese photography (only one shot of Yuanmin's work here but a good read). http://abacus.bates.edu/acad/museum/china/essay.html
I'd scan a few in but it would break the spine on the book unfortunately.
