Our beloved Italian craftsman has informed me that he will have 3 cases available for the M8 sometime in November.

- The HALF case
- The HALF case with a built-in-grip on front
- The FULL case

Needless to say, I am going with a black half case and built in grip 🙂

Joe,

I'm affraid that with the way you get taxed in Canada, you may only get away with buying a roll of film after the Govt is done with their portion of a paycheck 🙂

yeah, but my doctor is free and so was my heart attack! 😉

to feel good about our taxes here we mostly think about the tax system in england...

Hey, it's not like we enjoy taxes.... I DO enjoy cash-in-hand though 😀

Luigi never got back to me about a case for my IIIc/Standard 🙁 I may have to wait until the next time I'm in Europe, and stalk him.

The M8 should be a windfall for Mr. Luigi, since there are no Leica cases to be had for $50-75 like there are with the thinner M bodies.

THere will be 2 different Neopren cases for the M8 for Euro 39,-
Halfcases for the M8 for Euro 79,--
Every ready cases for the M8 for Euro 200,--

Nothing beats Luigis Handcraft though!

Any shots of the case? As much as I love his cases for film bodies, I am a little skeptical about them having almost the whole back open so that you can access the screen. It just seems that with that whole area exposed, you are compromising on the strength of the case. Anyway, I would like to take a look at it though.

I've been in contact with Luigi, what I want is a half case that covers the display. He plans to make one with a rear door, just as he did for the RD-1. That way you're not tempted to look at the display but you can have access to it when needed. *almost" a M7...

Hmmm, I wonder now that the M8 has a centered tripod hole, if the bottom half of some ERCs from older SLRs will work...get out the old xacto knife and cut a flap for the LCD, seal the cut edges with crazy glue. If I get an M8 I won't have enough money for a $250 case, that's for darn sure 😡

are there any cases for the M5? It is about that width, though not so long or tall...

You obviously don't know very much about taxes in England...

The Luigi case for my M6 is excellent. On the M8, instead of a leather cross strap right under the viewfinder (like he did with the DMR case), it would make more sense IMO to have a black elastic band there that can go snug up against the back without adding bulk. If the design makes sense I'll certainly get one of his cases, can't beat them.

By the way, Luigi seems to have incorporated a feature into this M8 case that I requested from him for my R-D1 case -- a back flap that is sewn onto the case at the bottom seam, so that it can flip down for chimping or be snapped up to cover the LCD. I love it on my R-D1, and Luigi went the extra mile implementing my rather vague and sketchy design criteria. I've never seen a better case for a camera than the one he made for me.

I own several **items** of a metallic and mechanical nature and all I can say is never and I mean never store a metal object or any object sensitive to moisture long term in leather. For long-term storage we always go with synthetic fiber as leather holds in the moisture with obvious deleterious consequences.

Look this up and a discussion regarding the suitability of leather for long-term camera storage is in order.
