M-Rokkor on Leica M7/MP

Hi there.
Has anyone of you personal experience with using M-Rokkor's (28/40/90) on a Leica M7 or MP? Which frameline will show up on the leica with the 28mm and the 40mm?
Im very glad for some helpful thoughts.

M-Rokkor 40/f2, I love this lens... :eek:

The 40mm mount is machined to bring up the 50mm framelines. I too love this lens - it's small and has a unique contrast rendition that reminds me of National Geopraphic photos from the 60's and early 70's.

As an aside: On the M8, given the original the (non-upgraded) framelines and modifying the lens to bring up the 35mm set, this could be the perfect focal length for the camera.

Glan, very nice image! I use the 40mm Rokkor little jewel on my M7. I bought mine used and the lens had already been modified to bring up the 35mm frame lines in my viewfinder. Before I bought that lens I used an unmodified 40mm Rokkor, borrowed from my CLE. When I used that lens, I just taped the frame line selector switch in the 35mm position. Because, as stated above (and to answer your question directly) without modification, the Rokkor brings the 50mm frame lines up in the view finder It is such a great lens! See Raid's 35mm - 40mm lens comparison. Also, you have probably read about how the 35mm lens is really not portrayed too accurately with the 35mm frame lines. With the Rokkor 40mm the framing is extremely accurate. BTW, did I mention just how good this lens is?

I have an unmodified 40mm M-Rokkor (in CLE version), which brings up the 50mm frame lines in my M5 and M4-P. The 40mm CLE Rokkor is some fine piece of glass !!
 
Maddoc, thanks... is it very difficult to guess the final frame with the 50mm lines? I'm not sure if I should try to modify the lens to show up the 35mm framelines, because it's more close to 40mm than 50mm to 40mm...

The 50mm frame lines in the older Leicas (M5 and M4-P) fit quite nicely to the 40mm FoV. I just use the outer perimeter of the frame lines for framing and so far it worked for me. I also have a Leica CL, so I don't want to mess with the lens ...
 
I have the same problem with messing on the lens... use a Rokkor set 28/40/90 on my lovely Minolta CLE, which I really don't want to miss anymore! I had the chance to borrow my buddys Leica MP with Leicavit and Summilux 50mm for a week... a dream and for sure another league in "feel" and "soul" than the CLE :)
for sure, pictures don't get better with it, but that's another story...
 
The 40mm Rokkor, along with the 40mm Summicron, and the 40mm Voigtlander, will, as supplied by the factory, brings up the 50mm frameline on an M body. That's true for any M body. It is a simple matter to grind a little off the lug that actuates the frameline. Then the 35mm frameline will remain in view with the 40mm lens fitted. I prefer the 35mm frameline when using a 40mm lens on my M6, M7, or MP, because the framing accuracy is excellent at distances from, say, 10 feet to infinity. So, so far, I've modified three 40's in this way. I recommend it!
 
I have the summicron-c, wich is about the same as the rokkor and I absolutely love this lens too, almost as much as I love your shoots :D I'm stunned by the DOF here, didn't know you could have that much out of focus with this lens at F2. Congrats. What film/developper is that ?
 
Love those shots! It has a wonderful 60's look to them. Looks like Ed Van Elsken's shot from Paris in the 50's.
I too had the 40f2 Rokkor as well as the Summicron 40f2 for a long time. Great "pocket" lenses on a M2. Once I got the 40f1.4's (MC/SC) I unloaded the Rokkor and S-cron. Occasionally miss them though.
In this case. it really does not matter, those shots are stunning, irrespective of what lens used. Part lens,part skill and a lot to do with a great model too.

reuno: film was ilford hp5 800iso developed in xtol 1+1 for the first shot, and kodak tri-x 400 developed in d-76 1+1 in the second shot...

I have the chance to buy a close to new Leica MP 0.72 + Summilux 50mm included all paperwork, original boxes and factory warranty for 1 1/2 year... this will be a hard decision ;)

If you modify the m-rokkor to show 35mm framelines on a leica m what framlines will the modifyed rokkor show on the CLE?

I'm not sure if this is of any help to you, but I just tried my 35 Summicron on the CLE, and it brings out the 28 mm framelines. :)
 
I used to own a CLE with a nokton 40. But i tried it with a summicron 40 and i like those pictures a lot, even more then my pictures with my sum micron 35 v4. I´m thinking of buying a cle with a sum micron 40 or m-rokkor 40 and use the lens with both bodies. I guess i should not modify the lens..
