M2 - black specks in rangefinder?

Hello all,

Earlier this evening, I received a beautiful M2 in the mail. It is absolutely gorgeous, feels amazing - I'm very excited about having it compliment my black M7.

I noted two things upon inspection, though - firstly, the rangefinder image is slightly out of vertical alignment. I have since discovered that this is easily remedied, and I plan to tackle it tomorrow.

The second thing, however, was that I noticed the rangefinder patch has two small black specks 'floating' in it. I seem to recall hearing about this problem before, but memory fails me as to what the cause of it is, and if it can prove to be problematic in future.

Can anyone shed some insight on this for me? It would be greatly appreciated!

Cole, dont worry about the specks. Your camera is at least 40 years old and the "black" anti reflection coat is probably shedding the odd flake. It can be cleaned, but is hardly worth the effort. It does not affect the performance in any way.
Welcome to the M2 crowd, fiercly devoted to their cameras and in my opinion, the best Leica made!

Thanks for the quick response, Tom. I'm really glad to know that it's not a major problem - though I've only had the M2 for a matter of hours, I already don't want to part with it! I was afraid that it might be some sort of delaminating in the RF, or something else severe; thus, this is a big relief.

Also, thanks for the 'welcome.' I thought long and hard before purchasing the M2, and your many words on the camera in past articles here helped me make what I think has been a wonderful decision.
