If you remenber I posted a thread about the fair price for an M2 with 3 lenes. I sold of most of my cameras, including my Contax IIIa and Tessar 3.5 last week to finance the deal. Went to close the deal and Guess what. Seller decided Not to sell. Now no leica M2, no Contax, and a big hole on the shelf where my cameras were stored. Lucky for me the Leica IIIa I did a Trade/Cash deal on arrived after the Camera show on the 10th or it might have gone to for finacing the purchase. Oh well easy come easy go. Maybe I will find another Contax/Tessar in the craiglist (ya right)

Bummer- I would be very upset with the backsliding seller. Luckily, you can probably get another Contax, although finding the 3.5 rigid tessar at a decent price may be a challenge.

can't realy help there as I never got the M2. The contax was nice to shoot with. I liked the RF much better the the Leica III. I did like the Leica III smaller size though. I found myself not using the focus wheel with the Contax, forgot it was the most of the time unless the lens was locked.

i owned and used a M4-P and 50mm (almost exclusively) and recently acquired a Contax IIa with the 50/1.5 Sonnar.

everything about the Leica make it a better body to use:

1. loading is faster;
2. shutter speeds easier to set (no lift and turn required as with the IIa);
3. better viewfinder (brighter VF - though my IIa's patch is quite contrasty though smaller than the M4-P) - though i prefer no having to deal with unused framelines in the IIa
4. feels better in my hand (subjective but the Leica is bigger and requires less 'gripping' unlike the IIa;
5. film advance is better (IIa requires turning a nob which forces me to take my eye away from the vf);

having said that the IIa is a beautiful camera which is extremely well built (even if the high speeds are not the most reliable and consistent)...

if i could get my hands on a contax - m mount adapter i'd keep the 50/1.5 on my M4-P most of the time... until someone makes an affordable one the IIa stay...

the 50/1.5 is really a great lens.. not as contrasty as my 50/2 Hexanon-M nor as sharp wide open, but it produces beautilful images... wouldn't trade either...

yeah, that would be appropriate. On the other hand, the world is moderately full of M2s, if that is your inclination. Wait for a good deal, one will come along eventually.

Oh crap I just walked into the Kitchen and Looked up to find water dripping from the door frame, looks like the roof is leaking. Add this to the skunk walking up onto the deck Sat night and spraying my dog through the screen of the sliding door. Got the dog, the carpet, the drapes, the door frame and my B&W speakers. Oh someone has got it out for me.

This M2 on EB looks good for the price.
No mention of viewfinder condition, however the seller has +900 positive feedbacks, although mostly for stuff other than cameras.

I"m not sure if Remy (RML) still has his jazzy gold covered M2 for sale or not. Dave's got an M3. John, you're in the driver's seat at the moment. Did Rover Ralph buy your Contax with Tessar?

When I first arrived at RFF, Remy had it covered in pink leather. THAT was the pimp version. The gold one you could name bling bling.
