Dear M2 users. I just recently took off the top plate on my M2 to look into a problem and I while I'm at it I was wondering what to do about the little black mask behind the viewfinder peephole that is quite small.
The mask that attaches with the two screws into the viewfinder, can it be removed? I thought I had read about some users finding the little black mask too constricting in order to see the framelines well. Some I know have replaced the mask with one that has a greater viewing area but I was wondering if I can just unscrew the mask and get rid of it entirely. I thought I read something where Tom does this to his M2s but I'm not sure and I don't want to put words in his mouth.
Any knowledge on this out there?

you can remove it, no problem. I don't find it improves your view at all- I still can't see all of the 35 frame.
I do think it looks cooler though.
cheers.

I was wondering about that. I think I even asked here. I wear glasses and the 50mm frame's corners hit the edges of the viewfinder...
I was thinking about removing the mask and have a wider vision...Why wouldn't it work?

Reporting back...I took off the mask and put my M2 back together. My verdict is that with glasses i noticed no difference. I've always been able to see about 90% of the 50 lines before and now with the mask off its no difference. Perhaps it's different for people without glasses.
