M3 Louder than my M6TTL...

I have a 51 year old M3 Double Stroke, that I find to be noticeably louder than my M6TTL. I sent my M3 to Youxin Ye to be Clean, lubed, and adjusted, and upon it's return, it was still louder than my M6TTL.

Youxin Ye said it did dry fire when he first tried it, and that he did clean it and lube it to make it quieter. I just recently purchased another M6TTL 0.85 Demo, and like the 0.72 M6TTL, it is noticeably quieter than my M3 DS. Has anyone else compared the shutter click of the M3 to the shutter click of a M6TTL?

I have 2 M6 classics that seem a touch quieter. Or it is of a different pitch.

Man you're killing me. I'm waiting for my 6 classic to get back from dag. Anyway, I remember doing a comparison between an M2 and a freshly overhauled M3. The M2 was quite loud but probably needed service. I can't remember how the 6 compared. But I love the sound of my 6, it puts a smile on my face every time I make a shot in a quiet place because it sounds so seductive. It has a wonderful sucking sound, like it's literally sucking what I've chosen in, sealing and saving it forever. Ah, I miss my 6. Anyway...

Oh, make sure you have a lens on both when comparing. The lens changes the sound I think.

My M6 classic is quieter than my M3 (both with recent CLA's).

My M3 produces a louder shutter-noise compared to my M4-P (both had a recent CLA). The M3 shutter sounds more like the one in my IIIf.

My M3 Single Stroke is quieter than the double stroke. Both are CLA'd. I've used an M6 for one roll of film, and it seemed on par with the M3SS.

Are you guys listening to your cameras by shooting them right next to your ear?

Do you realize that no matter how "loud" these sound, your subject still will not hear the shutter?

To me, that's what really counts.

BTW, I have a tenor and a baritone M6TTL. I still haven't determined my M3's voice, but I guess it's somewhere between loud and decently loud for a Leica.

Now, go and burn some film! 🙂

SolaresLarrave, I shot with my M3 exclusively for about 2 or 3 years, and love it; however, when I got my new M6TTL the difference was noticeably obvious, which made me question the CLA job performed on my M3 by Youxin Ye, which is why I came here to ask if others have the same experience.
