M3 + Sb-28

I know most of you have always wondered, " would a Leica M3 work well with a Nikon SB-28 flash?", .........well maybe some of you have wondered that. If that's the case then you have come to the right place.
I don't care for most flash photography so in order to stretch the limit of my boredom I shot a roll on my M3 with the Nikon SB-28 flash
My setup: M3-stroboframe-sync cord-Flash on top of stroboframe with Omni- Bounce attached. And of course the M3 set to it's sync speed of a blazing 1/50 of a second.

Well as you see there weren't any surprises, it blew out most my highlights. I did get better control when I bounced the flash off the ceiling so there is hope if anyone has this combination of equipment. All these were at f4 and 1/50 (might be better at f5.6) with the flash on "A or Automatic" with same settings.

Below, flash pointed directly at subject.

Is that a big Ja'mama flash? I actually saw this in a National Geographic piece about one of their photographers. At one point he was walking around at a festival in China, India or someplace else with an M6 and super huge Nikon flash taking candids. I don't care how quite the shutter was, he didn't sneak any shots that day.

I have used the SB15 with my M3, also has a built in "eye" for autoflash in addition to the TTL circuit for the N8008s.

They (SB15 and SB28) are not a big flashes, smaller than a Vivitar 283 or even the 292.

I used a similar setup... with my SF20 flash. Never tried the SB28 because my Leica is a M6TTL and don't want to fry the circuits by using the Nikon speedlight. I only wish the SF20 had a tiltable head... However, I won't complain, it's a TTL flash system and even though sometimes my highlights are slightly blown, it's not as when I use my Canonet and Canolite.

Thanks for the experiment, Tood!

BTW, did you get a new Leica kit? I'm glad if you did! :)

Before I forget... I was elated to see that the SC17 cord helps my Leica body communicate with the flash. Also, Todd, these are nice shots, especially the second one!

Francisco,
my wife gave me an M3 for Christmas :)
and thanks.

Todd,
Yep, that SB28 is a nice flash and works so well on the StroboFrame with the Stofen diffuser. It does work best, for me, pointed up 60 degress toward the ceiling.
Of course, mine is usually on the N80 with matrix metering.
