thought i'd read of a glitch w/the m7.
(bought used).
i've run thru 3 sets of batteries in
almost 4 months.
the m6 i used before this i did not have to replace
in several months.
i may have to take the batteries out
after each day of shooting, as i do not
wish to send for replair.

has anyone heard of this problem with the m7?

Happens all the time. Comes from not turning the camera off (I know, you ALWAYS turn it off before you put it in the bag- but you don't, I don't, nobody does). Comes from the shutter using batteries to run too. All it takes is tripping the shutter once or twice in the bag I think to really suck the batteries dry.

If the shutter is slightly depressed in camera bag it will drain battery. Sometimes the circuit board is jacked up and needs replacing -- $300 repair. This happened to my MP but fortunately it was under warranty.

Yes, not turning it off. But two comments: (1) more than once I thought it was off, because the relationship between on/off and the red dat differs with different brands; and, (2) compared to the rate of battery for the many other battery-dependant cameras which I also regularly forget to turn off, an idle M7 drains its battery very fast indeed.

yes, correct i do not always turn off
but compared to the m6
which i followed the same pattern
the batteries on the m6 are still going strong.
the m7 bought in march; 3 sets of batteries.
i'll try turning off every time.
hope it solves the problem.
if not i suppose a repair may be in order.
thanks for the replies.

I bought mine end of April, installed one set of new batteries and use it since then, ~ 40 rolls of film until now and I rarely turn the shutter off. My M7 has the optical DX reader.

I never turned off on my M7, and the battery can last for 1 year+

I do think your M7 battery drains out , which is often seen on this model.
