Reading the instructions manual for the M8, new, it states that the summicron 50/2.0 with "close focus" is not usable. Anyone know how to recognize this?
Haiving not seen this lens, and not used it on my M2, I am assuming the tube must protrude inward like the Elmar 90/4.0, but I am wondering if someone has one and can say...
New user, so be kind.....:p

You're confusing a collapsible Summicron and a Dual Range Summicron. A collapsible Summicron can be used IF IT IS NOT COLLAPSED FOR STORAGE. A dual range Summicron won't mount because the structure of the lens interfers with the body structure. The collapsible version indeed has a tube that protrudes when you twist it and push the lens head in. The dual range version has a set of auxiliary goggles that mount to a bar across the lens. It it looks like a regular lens mount, you don't have either of these versions.
